ETKO ry in English

ETKO ry was founded on the 14th of December, 1925. At first, the association was called Suomen Radiotehtailijoiden ja Radiokauppiaiden Liitto ry, starting from 1971 Elektroniikan Tukkukauppiaat and since the beginning of 2024, the association has operated under the name Elektroniikka- ja kodinkonekaupan yhdistys ETKO ry (The Finnish Electronics and Home Appliances Trade Association).

About Us

Etko is a national economic policy advocacy organisation, representing the manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retail operators in the home electronics sector. The purpose of the association’s activities is to promote the operating conditions of the home electronics sector by influencing the operating environment and by creating concrete added value for companies through advocacy, other policy‑influencing work, and the provision of diverse and up‑to‑date information.

The Association

  • aims to influence the laws and regulations which govern the industry during the drafting, planning and revising stages
  • starts motions and gives statements
  • maintains connections with government officials, the media, manufacturing, wholesalers and retailers and their organisations and other associations.
  • offers information, advice and training services to its members
  • manages the industry communicating
  • produces statistics
  • participates in statistics, research, publications and training projects
  • follows research, marketing, maintenance, testing and other such activities
  • participates in international cooperation projects concerning the industry

The Etko office is located in Eteläranta 10 in Helsinki. The CEO of the association is Taina Luukkainen.

Etko’s advocacy objectives:

  • Training and a formal qualification for appliance repair technicians to be included in the national upper secondary vocational education framework
  • 0% VAT on maintenance and repair work for household appliances and electronics
  • The budget-based compensation model for private copying must be retained
